A graduate of George Mason University, Negar Nahidian received her BA in Art Studio in 1997 and her MFA in
Arts & Visual Technology in 2003. Working from her studio as a graphic designer, Her digital printmaking work
was published inSecrets of Award-Winning Digital Artists: Creative Techniques and Insights for Photoshop, Painter
and More (Wiley, 2002). Negar’s work incorporates classical Persian motifs and elements of style with modern design
and technique, weaving together the aesthetics of East and West.
As an instructor, she works to establish an environment that fosters creativity, where students learn the
foundation of design, the tools to express their artistic style and the acuity to critique and improve upon
their work. As a graphic designer and educator with more than 15 years of experience, she imparts on students
the importance of meeting deadlines, and what to anticipate working with potential clients.
In her free time Negar enjoys spending time with her family, drawing, mixed media art, typography, gardening,
swimming and cooking healthy meals. No matter what she does design is always a part of it.

Here is a sample of my art work. I enjoy printmaking, and mixed media art.
Each section has a few samples of my work. Enjoy!
My MFA thesis titled “that thing on your head” is about my personal experience.
I used digital printmaking, photography, and image manipulation to create a gallery of works.
I got a review in the washington post and had a wonderful experience creating works of art that fed my soul.
The series of persian motifs were created with a twist; digital mosaic work.
I’m drawn to these beautiful motifs dating back to 2000 BC.
I love recreating them using my own style and colors.
I love mixing digital art with traditional, I enjoy drawing, taking it in Adobe programs
working on it some more and then experimenting with different printing methods.
Nature is my inspiration.
Below is a sample of my graphic design work.
I enjoy working with my clients creating their brand identity, brochures, building their website, etc.
I have been teaching digital art and Graphic Design classes for the last 20 years.
Enjoy student works from some of the classes I have taught in the last few years.
Intro to GD Poster
Illustration
For every given project students do a mind map, sketch out their ideas, do several drafts which leads to the final piece. Students get feedback every class and work on illustrations every class.
Photoshop
For every project, students sketch out their ideas, and take their photographs. Students are encouraged to use masking effectively, stay away from using filters and pay attention to execution, composition and the overall theme. Color correction and printing properly is enforced.
Typography I
Kerning, leading, tracking, typeface or fonts? concentration is on the basics of typography. Getting students to see type in a whole new way…both having fun with typefaces and learning hierarchy. Getting to know some of the most influential typographers of our time.
Typography II
Hierarchy is what we concentrate on in this class, learning the rules, the do’s and don’ts. Learning type classifications and getting more aquatinted with typefaces, the over all color of type and much more. By the end of this class students are total type nerds!
Intro to GD Makerhub
Typography III
Expressive typography; it’s all about having fun and play but it’s lots of work. Students are encouraged to pick a theme and use typography to create their projects, they can do hand lettering or wood block typography, anything that goes with their style.
Infographics
Graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly. They are everywhere and they are popular. At this point students are comfortable using all software, know how to use grids effectively and have taken the logo design (graphic symbolism) class. It’s an intense class and lots of research.
History Of GD
Students create projects related to what they are studying each week. They can use any medium to create their projects... History of alphabets, pictographs, celtic lettering, different art movements, typography, Bauhaus and getting aquatinted with influential graphic designers of our times and those who inspired them.
Intro to GD medallion
Students create medallions using shapes, create posters and redesign a logo
Intro to GD illustration
self portrait Silhouette project with different themes.
Layout
Learning to make grids and break grids. Picking your theme, the right typefaces, the right illustration/photographs, and color correction. Students get comfortable with not only laying out their pages but getting files ready for print. Students are encouraged to make their own books or send it out to print.
Other classes
When we meet in class students give feedback to each other and try to improve their work. They go through many drafts and then the final print. Presentation is a major part of my classes, and most importantly learning to give creative criticism and take feedback to improve their work.
Valentine's cards
Students were asked to design valentine's day cards, send them to print and give to at least 6-8 people who would not expect it at all. Some chose to share with all some to say thanks to those who mentored them, helped them in any way...
